From Boulevard:
Spring 2016 brings another rotation to our Sample Twelve pack featuring two year-round beers and two brand new beers from our Tasting Room. Created to allow our brewers the chance to experiment with new styles and recipes, the line of Tasting Room beers also gives Boulevard fans the chance to try beers that were previously only available in our Tasting Room. Joining year-round favorites Unfiltered Wheat Beer andSingle-Wide IPA will be Amerikan Kölsch and White IPA.
Inspired by the history and intent of the Kölsch style, our brewers sought to create an incredibly drinkable beer for spring and summer. Using European pilsner malt and malted wheat as a base, Amerikan Kölsch is bittered with Magnum hops and features herbal, woody and spicy notes from end of boil additions of Northern Brewer and Vanguard. Pouring golden in color, the aroma is of bready malt punctuated by a slightly minty hop character. With a light to medium mouthfeel, Amerikan Kölsch delivers a honey-like malt sweetness that gives way to a crisp clean finish with a touch of lingering herbal hop flavor. At 4.6% ABV and 18 IBU, our take on this classic German style is a perfect accompaniment to warmer weather.
In a bit of a nod to Reboot White IPA, which was inspired by Collaboration No. 2 – White IPA brewed with Deschutes Brewery, Tasting Room – White IPA has been scaled down from the original 7.4% ABV to 5.8% while keeping the intent of the original recipe intact. With a malt bill composed of Pilsner malt, malted wheat, raw wheat and oats, the current iteration features generous hopping with Bravo, Citra, Cascade and Centennial on the brewhouse and Citra, Cascade and Centennial for dry-hopping. Spicing on the brewhouse includes coriander, lemon peel, sage and lemongrass. The use of sage and lemongrass serves as a sort of herbal bridge between the fruity/spicy character contributed by our house Belgian yeast strain. Tasting Room – White IPA is 5.8% ABV with 50 IBUs.
Tasting Room – Amerikan Kölsch and White IPA will be available exclusively in our Sample Twelve pack and on draft in the Tasting Room at our brewery. A few kegs might make it out for special events and festivals, but you shouldn’t expect to see these beers as a regular draft in bars and restaurants.
As always with our Tasting Room beers, we’re interested in hearing what you have to say. Drink these beers and provide feedback.
– Jeremy Danner, Ambassador Brewer
