Two Roads - Espressway Cold Brew Coffee Oatmeal Stout
Here’s your first look at a new beer coming to bottles from Two Roads in Strattford, CT. This is Espressway and it is a cold-brewed coffee oatmeal stout that uses a locally-roasted Ethiopian/Sumatran blend of coffee beans (under pressure like espresso). This is a 12oz bottle (cans below) and the beer will hit 6%-AbV (6.5%-AbV on the new can). Stay tuned for release details. Update...looks like it will be 6.5%-AbV (below).

Looks like Two Roads is catching up with this press release coming a few hours after my post on this new beer. From Two Roads:
Two Roads is proud to announce its newest year-round beer style: Espressway Cold-Brew Coffee Stout.
Espressway merges the flavors of a locally-roasted, organic Ethiopian/Sumatran blend of coffee beans with a rich oatmeal stout in a cold-brew beer process that’s unique to Two Roads.
Two Roads' process combines the ground coffee with the oatmeal stout under pressure (like espresso but without the steam) using their German-built “Brewnik” device.
The coffee then steeps in the stout for several days, resulting in a true, cold-brewed coffee stout. The end product has the aroma of fresh ground coffee and the distinctive taste of roasted English malts with the nuance of light brown sugar and cold-brew coffee.
"I believe we’ve created a truly outstanding product based on our thoughtful experimentation," said Two Roads Brewmaster Phil Markowski. "The result is a beautiful coffee character without the burnt flavor you often get in other coffee brews. I don’t know of any other brewery using this approach.”
Markowski and the brewers went through extensive coffee training in order to secure the right blend of beans and brew. From “coffee cupping” classes at the brewery to visiting their partners at the Trumbull, CT-based Shearwater Coffee Roasters, the brew team at Two Roads spent months in search of the perfect coffee to complement the full-bodied stout taste.
"I really enjoyed working with Ed Freedman of Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters and my old friend Gerry 'The Educated Bean' Nichols, who has become quite the legit coffee expert," added Markowski.
Espressway will be sold in all Two Roads markets on draft starting in late February and in six pack bottles starting in mid March. The draft version will also be previewed at Two Roads first annual Winter Classic outdoor event at the brewery on February 20th.
