Way back in early Aug 2015, my excitement to sample this beer began building. I’ve really enjoyed all of the gose-style beers coming from Anderson Valley Brewing, so I just knew I’d love one brewed with watermelon.
With the Gose-style becoming such a rising star in the craft beer world, we’ve sampled Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose at mybeerbuzz headquarters and we even featured The Kimmie, The Yink & The Holy Gose on the radio…so I’m excited to highlight this new gose from Anderson Valley Brewing.
Briney Melon Gose is packaged in 12oz cans and 22oz bottles and it pours a bright slightly cloudy golden color. As with the previous Anderson Valley gose varieties, the mouthfeel is very effervescent. Briney Melon Gose begins with some tart and watermelon flavors, it hits a pleasant salty middle note and finishes slightly acidic and clean. As we sipped more, the watermelon flavor presented itself a little stronger, but it is still very subtle. I know what some of you may think of watermelon in a beer, but with the combination of watermelon and salt, it really works (much like people who salt their watermelon slices before eating them.) The watermelon flavor tastes genuine and the tart and salty combination serves to pump it up even more.
At 4.2%-AbV and with such a clean finish you’ll want to drink more and more, and I think I may have found my favorite Anderson Valey Gose (so far). The 12oz cans are hitting shelves in Feb so be sure to get out there and see if you agree with my palate…and as always, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
