NYC Brewers Guild Announces "NYC Beer Week 2016" (Feb. 19 - 28, 2016)

New York, NY -- Weds, Jan. 6, 2016 -- The New York City Brewers Guild (NYCBG) is back at it and ready to celebrate the incredible growth of New York City's craft beer industry with its Opening Bash 2016 for the "8th Annual New York City Beer Week" taking place aboard Empire Cruises' Nautical Empress (Sat, Feb. 20: 1pm - 4pm, 5pm - 8pm, $75/$85). Join the NYCBG and New York State Brewers Association along with 30 New York State breweries as they enjoy the region's finest beers amidst NYC's most iconic landmarks, including a close pass by the Statue of Liberty. Two sessions include onboard entertainment with a live DJ, artisanal food vendors, a heated interior, and NY's famed brewmasters pouring their latest releases. Kicking off New York City Beer Week 2016 is the citywide SimulTap(TM) on Fri, Feb. 19, 2016 at 7 pm. More than 25 venues will simultaneously tap one of the Guild's freshly brewed SMASH beers; the SMASH brew will debut at the SimulTap(TM) venues and then roll out on draught throughout Beer Week at participating bars across the city. The SMASH brew will undergo a dozen unique interpretations of the same three malts and three hops by these Guild breweries: Big Alice Brewing, Bronx Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Coney Island Brewing Company, Finback Brewery, Greenpoint Beer & Ales, Gun Hill Brewing, Heartland Brewing, Keg & Lantern, KelSo Beer, LIC Beer Project, Rockaway Brewing, Sixpoint Brewery, and Transmitter Brewing. Each brewer will have access to Upstate New York'sWild Hive Farm's Malted Pale Ale Malt, Malted Spelt, and Caramel 20. Bluebell Hopyard LLC out of Farmington, NY provides the hops: Chinook, Willamette, and Cascade.

Returning attractions for New York City Beer Week 2016 include Beer Sessions Radio(TM) and the Good Beer Seal's 6th Annual NYC Brewers Choice(TM) at Sanders Studios on Weds, Feb. 24, 2016 (525 Waverly, Clinton Hill, 6 pm - 10 pm, $60 - $80). 6th Annual NYC Brewers Choice(TM) celebrates the exceptional workers within the craft beer industry, offering the opportunity for beer enthusiasts to mingle with the brewers themselves. On Thurs, Feb. 25, 2016, The Greene Space hosts "WQXR's Classical Beer Jam: Made In New York Edition" featuring live performances of works by some of NYC's quintessential composers. The event spotlights the music of Gershwin and Bernstein, as well as Rachmaninoff and Dvo?ák, composers who both spent time in the Big Apple. Classical guitarist Pablo Villegas will be on tap to perform Bernstein's "West Side Story Suite," with other guest artists to be announced. New York City Beer Week 2016 is bookended by the most ambitious cask festival to ever happen in the City. NYCBG partners again with the NYS Brewers Association,Time Out New York and Get Real Presents for a two session cask festival featuring over 150 casks from New York State breweries on Sat, Feb. 27, 2016 at The Altman Building (135 W 18th Street, NYC). In honor of Jacob Ruppert, Jr., the Brewers Guild resuscitated The Ruppert's Cup that circulated around to different NYC breweries in the 1990's vying for "Brewery of the Year." A celebrated American brewer, US Congressman, and owner of the New York Yankees (1915 - 1939), Ruppert's name will appear front-and-center on the newly designed trophy destined for the Favorite Beer Week New York State Brewery.

The Opening Bash 2016 marks the release of the 2016 NYC Beer Trail app (iOS, Android). The app focuses on 11 NYC regions curated by local retailers and venues. Functions will include Event Schedule, Guild Events, Beer Trails, Venues, Special Programming, Social, Sponsors, Scavenger Hunt, and FAQ.
