We are excited to announce that in the second quarter of 2016 we will be moving our entire operation to the Brick North building at Thompson's Point in Portland. The move will include a significant increase in production capacity, tap room size, & retail efficiency, while allowing us to keep the Bissell Brothers spirit, experience, and commitment to providing fresh beer for Maine intact.
The need to consider relocation came far earlier than any of us expected. It was not an easy choice – The owner & management team at One Industrial Way have been exceptional to work with, and their embrace of brewing and beer culture helped Foundation, Austin Street and ourselves build something very special in an unlikely location – But even in early 2015, it became apparent to us that we had reached a tipping point where real growth would be difficult going forward if we stayed.
A word on what lies ahead – You may know Thompson's Point as a forgotten industrial peninsula. Or perhaps you've caught wind of some of the other developments going on down there – or maybe you've never heard of it at all. Either way, there are BIG things happening on this spit of land, and we are incredibly excited to be a part of it – craft beverages, amazing food, large-scale performances and events, museums & cultural attractions – It's all happening there, and soon. The Thompson's Point development team has been incredibly accommodating and welcoming – These guys are visionaries, open to any idea, and are sowing the seeds of a unique, collaborative village .
So, in short, we have a crazy, scary, exciting, unforgettable year ahead of us. We are pumped to be able to use the flexibility of the larger space to deliver you more of the beers you love, as well as new offerings, and take customer service and the on-premise experience to the next level. We are incredibly lucky to be part of the emerging Thompson's Point community. And we hope you'll continue to visit us at our new home.
We will continue to release updates regarding the preparation & buildout of the new brewery, but for now all we can say is that this move will take place sometime in the second quarter. There are many moving pieces. Everyone is working to make this happen as soon as possible- our space at Industrial Way will also be needed so that others may expand as well, so don't take your eyes off the park for a second - there's tons of awesome stuff in the works there as well.
In the meantime, it's business as usual – We are open Weds-Sat 12-6pm, and will be until further notice.
Thank you very much for standing by us, drinking our beers, and allowing us to become the company we are today. It is because of you that we are moving, and because of you that we get to continue working to contribute to the food & beverage culture of the great state of Maine.
Peter & Noah Bissell
