From Green Flash: What do you get when you accidentally mix two different beers? At Green Flash you get not only a new brew, but a new bottle going nationwide; Jolly Folly IPA.
Boldly hoppy, just like the award-winning craft beers the brewery is renowned for, the seasonal offering was created when a newer team member committed a ‘folly’ by mistakenly mixing two different beer tanks, resulting in 500 barrels (or 15,500 gallons!) of the merry new brew. A taste of the resulting batch revealed it to be delicious, a hop bomb with a winter spice flavor. It’s Green Flash’s unexpected gift to IPA enthusiasts this holiday season. Jolly Folly will be available for a limited time beginning December 1.
“Our team is always looking to bring a new, fresh approach to brewing beer, says Green Flash CEO and Co-Founder, Mike Hinkley. “And it doesn’t get any more original than ‘accidentally’ crafting a beer that just so happens to be uniquely Green Flash and allow our loyal fans to celebrate the holiday season with a limited-edition brew.”
Enthusiasm for Green Flash’s recently acquired high-tech hop back is partly to blame for the mix-up, but it’s what gives Jolly Folly its big hop aroma and flavor. The craft beer is the first Green Flash offering brewed with the new device, plus a ridiculous amount of dry hopping. The IPA is 7.7 % ABV and 71 IBU.
“We first installed our new hop back to produce Alpine’s Pure Hoppiness, but we’ve been enjoying experimenting with it since and were looking forward to producing our first Green Flash beers,” explains Green Flash brewmaster Erik Jensen. “It just happened a little faster than we thought it would — and we’re all very happy with the result.
Jolly Folly is dominated by resinous, spicy hops. Its piney, floral aroma yields to a full malty flavor that is nicely balanced by multiple layers of citrus and tropical hop flavors.
Working overtime, the Green Flash team, from brewers to graphic design, was able to bring Jolly Folly IPA to market in a record 15 days. The craft beer will be available as of December 1 in 22oz bottles and on draft in all 50 states, wherever Green Flash beers are sold.
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse,
All of our tanks were fermenting,
In our busy brew house.
Suddenly one of our brewers,
Pushed a button in haste,
Making a $%*# load of beer,
Instead of a case.
Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell Rock,
When we heard of the mix up we exclaimed,
“What the %&*#?”
We gave it a taste, and to our surprise,
The beer was AMAZING. It brought tears to our eyes!
Wonderfully citrus,
And piney like trees,
Its fresh hoppy fragrance,
Made us weak in the knees.
We cheered, “Happy Holidays!”
And we bottled with glee,
Put Jolly Folly IPA on your wish list,
And share two or three.
