Portland, Ore. (December 14, 2015) – Craft Brew Alliance, Inc. (“CBA”) (Nasdaq: BREW), a leading craft brewing company, announced today that its Board of Directors has elected David R. Lord to the position of Board Chairman, effective January 1, 2016. Mr. Lord has been a member of the Craft Brew Alliance Board of Directors since its inception in 2008 and has been involved with the company since 2003, having previously served on the Redhook Brewery Board of Directors from 2003 until 2008. He will succeed Mr. Kurt R. Widmer, who is retiring as Chairman at the end of 2015.
“I am honored to be elected Chairman of the Craft Brew Alliance Board of Directors,” said Mr. Lord. “It is amazing to see how far the company has grown since it was formed in 2008 by the union of Pacific Northwest heritage breweries, Widmer Brothers and Redhook. I look forward to working with CBA’s executive leadership, led by Andy Thomas, to continue positioning CBA for long-term growth and success. I also want to take a moment to recognize the work of Kurt Widmer, who for more than 30 years dedicated his time and passion to building the Widmer Brothers brand, the development of CBA, and igniting the growth in the craft beer industry overall. Kurt is an icon in craft beer, and I want to wish Ann and him the best in his retirement.”
“I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with our Board of Directors under Dave’s leadership,” said Andy Thomas, chief executive officer, CBA. “He brings a wealth of insight and experience, both within and outside the craft beer industry, and has played a key role in enabling CBA’s evolution to the next level. It will be energizing to have his perspective as we continue realizing the CBA of tomorrow.”
Mr. Lord served as the President of Pioneer News Group, Inc. from 1991 until 2009, when he assumed the role of Vice Chairman, a position he held until December 2012. He currently serves on the boards of the Pioneer News Group and Wick Communications. Previously, Mr. Lord served as a criminal deputy prosecuting attorney for King County, Washington and practiced law at Ferguson and Burdell, a Seattle firm specializing in business litigation.
Mr. Lord is the past president and chairman of the Inland Press Association, past president and chairman of the PAGE media buying cooperative, and a past director of the Associated Press.

CBA is a leading craft brewing company, which brews, brands, and markets some of the world’s most respected and best-loved American craft beers.
The company is home to three of the earliest pioneers in craft beer: Redhook Ale Brewery, Washington’s largest craft brewery founded in 1981; Widmer Brothers Brewing, Oregon’s largest craft brewery founded in 1984; and Kona Brewing Company, Hawaii’s oldest and largest craft brewery founded in 1994. As part of Craft Brew Alliance, these craft brewing legends have expanded their reach across the U.S. and more than 15 international markets.
In addition to growing and nurturing distinctive brands rooted in local heritage, Craft Brew Alliance is committed to developing innovative new category leaders, such as Omission Beer, which is the #1 beer in the gluten free beer segment, and Square Mile Cider, a tribute to the early American settlers who purchased the first plots of land in the Pacific Northwest.
