From Oskar Blues:
WHAT: The CAN'd Aid Foundation will spearhead a weekend of service in Georgetown, South Carolina, one of the hardest hit areas from last month's flood. CAN'd Aid Foundation & Oskar Blues Brewery employees will travel from their Brevard, NC brewery to the temporary base of All Hands Volunteers in Georgetown. After working with AHV mucking and gutting homes, the crew will host a BBQ "Beer Can Chicken" dinner for the 75+ volunteers living and working in the area. The work weekend is a follow-up to the 3,600 cases of canned drinking water the brewery sent to the epicenter of flooding in Columbia, South Carolina last month and in conjunction with a $20,000 grant that CAN'd Aid issued to support SC flood relief efforts.
WHEN: CAN'd Aid and Brewery employees will depart Brevard at 7 a.m. on November 21st and arrive Georgetown at 12pm. Muck & gut operations in surrounding neighborhoods from 12pm-6:30 pm. Beer CAN Chicken from 7:00 - 9:30 pm. Muck & gut continues Sunday morning, Nov. 22nd from 8:00 am - 12pm.
WHERE: Georgetown, South Carolina: Population 9,184 with a poverty level 52.3% greater than the South Carolina state average. On the ground NGO All Hands Volunteers set up a work base in the area days after the flood and will remain in the area for the next several months. CAN'd Aid Foundation and AHV partnered after the devastating 2013 flood in ColoRADo and share a similar grassroots approach to do-goodery.
WHY: CAN'd Aid is a 501c3 started by Dale Katechis, soul founder of Oskar Blues Brewery, in 2013 following the Colorado flooding that devastated the hometown of Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, Colorado. What started as a response to the 2013 floods in ColoRADo has now raised and distributed more than $1,000,000 to support small businesses and families in need all across the country. The foundation is the non-profit arm of Oskar Blues Brewery and has evolved into an irreverent nonprofit focused on diggin' in and makin' a difference where CAN'd Aid CAN. Its "do-goodery is focused on:
- Towns - building strong communities
- Tunes - for your eyeholes and earholes
- Treads + Trails - get outside and get after it!
- Love Yur Mama - save the blue marble
