We brought you a peek at this beer back in July, and now the official details from Narragansett:
It began with a serum. A serum that would force the unnatural, a serum that would bring life… to death. It was said that Herbert West once employed his concoction to pull a lifeless, battered boxer back from the netherworld. This is when the murmurs of West’s tampering with death began. When the whispered tale at last traveled from Arkham to Providence, our mission became clear. We would use it on one of our own fallen favorites: our beloved Bock beer. Though twisted and forever changed, the Bock would love again as a Helles Lager – and now it hits harder than ever.
About the beer:
Roll out the Barrel: Our Bock is back and stronger than ever. 6.5% Alcohol by Volume and 35 IBUs. We’ve reanimated our classic Bock by dry-hopping it with Czech Saaz to punch up the hop presence and add a sophisticated and spicy twist.
Quality Supreme: Brewed with Light and Dark Munich malts, Pilsner Malt, and Malted Wheat, the Reanimator is then hopped with Northern Brewers and Hallertau hops. Northern Brewers is a clean bittering hop and Hallertau is a classic German aroma hop associated with Bavarian style lager beers. We then dry-hop the brew with a blend of Czech Saaz, Hallertau, and Citra hops for added hop presence.
Taste & Enjoy: Reanimator is drier and hoppier than a traditional bock, and by dry-hopping at the end of the process we’ve added a full layer of spicy complexity on the palate and a sweet, floral aroma. The beer pours a deep clean gold, producing a large creamy, persistent white head. Despite its full body, the flavor is not overly malty and delivers an elegant spicy character from the hops that produces a balanced, smooth finish.
The History: HP Lovecraft’s ‘Herbert West—Reanimator’ and the 1985 film adaptation, Re-Animator, are horror fan favorites. In the story, Dr. West and his accomplice experiments with human reanimation by injecting fresh corpses with a serum meant to bring the dead back to life. We wanted to create a serum to resurrect one of our own; our beloved Bock beer.
