Door County Brewing Company is excited to announce the award-winning Silurian Stout with Vanilla will be available October 1. Head Brewer, Danny McMahon’s milk stout recipe took home the St. Paul’s People’s Choice Award at this year’s St. Paul Summer Beer Fest.
“We were very happy to announce Door County Brewing Co. as this year’s People’s Choice Award winner when we tallied the votes,” said Mark Opdahl, co-founder of festival. “It’s so great to add new local and regional breweries each year, and it’s really fun when those breweries are making beers that are consistently delicious.”
Historically, milk stouts are brewed with lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. In addition to brewing with dark and chocolate malts for a hint of chocolate and coffee, Door County Brewing Co. expanded on this tradition by aging the beer with vanilla beans.
Available October-May at an ABV of 5.7%, Silurian Stout with Vanilla is a medium-bodied stout that exhibits notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla with a very soft and velvety mouthfeel. It has a moderately drying finish with a decent earthy bitterness that balances nicely with the flavors, giving tons of depth to this stout.
