BrewDog - Ellon Brewery Expansion Update

From BrewDog:

Our project to expand the BrewDog brewing facility here at Ellon is still going strong – and as we are now expectantly awaiting some shiny new arrivals, we figured it was time to fill you all in on what has been happening with our Site 3 expansion!

The external shell of the new brewery is complete, and our amazing construction teams are now finishing off the internal walls and other flooring – but, importantly, not the roof. And the reason for that is hidden behind the big red ring that is marked around the 1st of October on our BrewDog office calendar…

That’s the day that our first steelwork arrives. Heading the checklist for Martin to sign on receipt (hopefully not in his pyjamas) will be our new spent grain silo, which is being followed by the custom-built Ziemann lauter tun, which is a whopping 7.2m in diameter. Arriving by sea, it will be driven from Peterhead to Ellon during the night to minimise road disruption. If you’re a night owl, give it a wave!

Alongside the whirlpool, wort collecting plant and mash kettle, these vessels will be winched into place, Tetris-style, through the carefully-left gap in the top of the brewery building. Once all parts of the 300HL brewhouse are present and correct, the contractors will return and put the roof on, lay resin floorings and it’ll be on to the next series of deliveries – the centrifuge, yeast tanks, boiler and chiller. Then we hook up the electricity, gas, wi-fi and Punk IPA feature fountain, and we’re all set!

All of our new brewing vessels will be fully insulated, and we are conducting feasibility studies to enable us to further invest in green technologies across all of our brewing sites (not just Site 3). The project is progressing really well, and we hope to have everything in place and fully operational by March of next year. And then the real fun will begin!

Until then, we’ll carry on keeping you all updated as to the progress of Site 3 – expect the next in the series to feature photos of hefty steelwork being lowered into position like a Fabergé Egg. We are thrilled to be expanding in this way to keep up with the demand for our beers, create more jobs and continue to add to our growth potential. Oh, and give Franz more toys to play with
