NEWBURYPORT, MA - Apr 7, 2015 - The Newburyport Brewing Company®, Massachusetts' all-can and keg craft brewery, today announces a major cellar expansion to double on-site production capacity to more than 15,000 barrels per year to meet ongoing demand for its craft beers. The expansion will be completed in early April and expanded production is expected to begin at the end of the month. The brewery wraps up its second year in business, producing more than 7,500 barrels of beer. The company recently announced a partnership with Delta Air Lines to include its Newburyport Pale Ale on Northeast Regional Shuttle flights.
The U.S. Brewers Association classifies a brewery with an annual beer production of between 15,000 and 6,000,000 barrels as a "Regional Brewery." As of the end of 2014, there were 135 U.S. breweries classified as Regional Breweries out of the total number of 3,418. There were 15 New England-based Regional Breweries at the end of 2014.
"We again thank our local craft beer-loving consumers, bar and restaurant owners, retail owners, and musicians throughout the region for an incredible second year in business," said Chris Webb, co-founder and CEO. "During the past two years, we have proven our commitment to producing consistently fresh, high quality craft beers and are excited to offer more innovative products across the region as we expand our production capacity."
Newburyport Brewing has partially funded its next stage of growth with a $280,000 MassDevelopment Equipment Loan. MassDevelopment, the state's finance and development agency, works with businesses, nonprofits, financial institutions, and communities to stimulate economic growth across the Commonwealth. Newburyport Brewing chose Virginia-based SMT Food & Beverage as the cellar tank manufacturer.
"Our strong distribution partnerships in Massachusetts and New Hampshire continue to drive success with our flagship beers -- Green Head IPA, Newburyport Pale Ale, and Plum Island Belgian White -- as well as our line of 1635 Series limited release beers," stated Bill Fisher, co-founder and COO. "Regional community support has been phenomenal and we enjoy giving back to say 'thank you' whenever we can."
