Mother Road Brewing (Flagstaff, AZ USA) has released their 2014 Winter Seasonal, Stranded Spiced Porter.
Stranded is a medium bodied, dark ale with aroma and flavors that hint of spice cake. The recipe for Stranded Spiced Porter is tweaked each year to provide a fresh drinking experience. This year’s batch is patterned after an English Porter, providing nutty and toast notes, complemented with the addition of Star Anise, Sarsparilla, Vanilla, and Ginger.
The name ‘Stranded’ was inspired by local Flagstaff photographer, Bob Froske’s image of his 1933 Studebaker in front of a Northern Arizona cabin during the winter of ’36. The Mother Road team imagined the snowplows stopping for the evening with the snow continuing to come down heavily. Bob, a prudent motorist, decides to stop for the night, heads into the cabin and after finding a stash of Mother Road bottles in the ice box puts his feet up by the fire to warm himself.
Stranded Spiced Porter registers a warming 7.6% ABV and will be available on draught only throughout Arizona from December through January.
