When we began brainstorming ideas with Cigar City for our collaboration beers, the vision quickly took on a Cuban theme- specifically cuisine. The result, a pair of delicious beers; the one being brewed at 5 Rabbit, made with super-ripe plátanos maduros. Several layers of dark malts provide a rich base and the caramerlized plantains offer a creamy texture and delicious taste. We put a lot of love and labor into this beer: we peeled, sliced and caramelized 2400lbs of ripe plantains by hand!
El Bizarrón is the hero of a Cuban folktale. A simple worker who outsmarted the devil, winning his freedom as well as a load of silver, kicked to the heavens loaded on his faithful burro, way up high where he knew the devil couldn’t follow.
See you at the taproom this Saturday for some Cuban-inspired fun and be the first to pick up bottles of El Bizarrón, an Export Porter brewed with Caramelized Plantains (limit 2 per person). As a special treat, there will be sandwiches Cubanos to be washed down with some 5 Rabbit brews. Taproom opens at 1pm, with a brewery tour at 2pm.
