From Short’s:
First developed as Belgian Black Plum IPA, this beer was originally brewed with exactly what it sounds like: black plums and Belgian yeast. When flavors weren’t meshing quite the way our head brewer Tony desired, he started re-designing the brew. With much love and dedication instilled before setting it free into the world, Bludgeon Yer Eye was born!
Today (4/7), we release the fourth bottling of Bludgeon Yer Eye, an India Black Ale. This beer has an intense fruity and floral aroma, along with a subtle malty fragrance. The deep black color complements the rich, dark roasted malt flavors. The unexpected twist comes when the high hop bitterness takes over at the end and leaves a lingering finish.
The India Black Ale’s (6.2% ABV, 75 IBU) name was inspired by Joe’s love for the band Ween. The name is a lyric in the song, The Blarney Stone, which goes something like this:
Aye aye aye, sharpen your boot, and bludgeon your eye
Aye aye aye, the blarney stone brings a tear to me eye
Joe would wear a Ween t-shirt around the brewery with “Bludgeon Yer Eye” plastered to the back. Tony, not wanting to let the awesome phrase pass him by, decided that the phrase’s personality matched the personality of the beer. Enjoy!
