BrewDog Closes Fraserburgh Brewery

From BrewDog:

This is a sad day. Today is the day that we announce we will soon be closing the doors on what some may know as the Dystopian Puppet Hobby Centre. Our brewery in Fraserburgh.

Fraserburgh is where it all started in 2007. Where we invested our life savings into our first ever stainless steel tanks. Where we mashed in for the first time and, like kids in a candy shop, eagerly pored over what hops we would use in our first ever brew.

Where we brewed the very first batch of Punk IPA (containing such surprise ingredients as James's car keys, mobile phone and a mercury thermometer. Not ideal.). Where we hired our first helping hands. Where friendships were made for life. Where Bracken became the first ever Brew Dog. Where we lost an entire batch of 5am Saint, but managed to capture it on CCTV for your entertainment. Where everyone who works at BrewDog today learned the ropes. Where we collaborated with some of the most inspiring, enigmatic breweries on planet Earth. Where we first barrel aged our beers. Where we first freeze distilled our beers. Where we first stuffed our beers inside taxidermied animals. Where we were issued cease and desists from the Portman group, and where we laughed (sometimes unwisely...) in the face of bureaucracy and regulation.

Where an idea for a revolution manifested itself. Where it grew into an army of craft beer loving madcap brewers. And where we will always call our home.

Fraserburgh is where BrewDog was born. It has weathered the storms of the North Sea and kept us safe and warm...ok that's a lie...safe and cold for our first few years. But it is time to close the doors and say goodbye to our old friend.

But the sadness is laced with excitement for what this means for the future.

Today might be a sad day. But it is also an incredibly exciting day.
With the imminent opening of our brand new visitor centre and pilot brewing kit on site in Ellon, we will still be brewing loads of small batch, weird, whacky, bizarre and beautiful craft beers, but we'll be consolidating all our sites into one happy family rather than spread out across the North East coast of Scotland.

We will be moving the first ever mash tun from Fraserburgh to London and installing it in our Dalston Brewing Academy, so the students there will be learning to brew on the kit we started our brewery with.

We will be ramping up the craft beer revolution, and Fraserburgh, we promise we'll do you proud.
Thank you Fraserburgh, and goodnight.
