Earlier this year we released our brand new spring seasonal, Ophelia Hoppy Wheat. This flavorful wheat beer weighs in at 5% ABV and has a unique hop characteristic that gives the beer a slightly aggressive hoppiness, balanced by light flavors resembling that of mango, papaya, and guava. On Saturday, we released Barleywine Batch #1, the brewery's first barley wine, in 22 oz., wax-topped bottles.
This beer was cold conditioned for three months and barrel-aged in fresh American Oak barrels for another six. It has an aromatic complexity resembling that of molasses and ripened black cherries, and a robust profile that blends a spectrum of flavors including sweet malts, dark fruits, oak, and esters. Just the other day, we had the pleasure of having our friends from SweetWater Brewing Co. come into the brewery to collaborate on a beer.
The brew, named “O’ Tay,” will be a dry-hopped red wheat wine ale. Brewed with red wheat malt from the Colorado Malting Company, along with malted Buckwheat and Mosaic hops, this brew is a tribute to the friendship of brewing buddies J. Todd Usry and Freddy Bensch, the Big Kahuna at SweetWater Brewery, from the times when the two used to pal around in the early days of craft beer.
This beer will be featured in a select few locations throughout Denver during the Craft Brewer's Conference, including Breckenridge'sAle House at Amato's, where there will also be a tap takeover of 40 Breckenridge Brewery and SweetWater Brewery beers.
