From Saint Arnold:
HOUSTON, January 31, 2014 – Just in time for the Big Game this weekend, Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), today released the winning recipes from the 7th Annual One Pot Showdown™. The oldest craft brewery in Texas hosted the unique onsite cooking contest last weekend, in which 79 cooking teams whipped up a wide variety of dishes – each of which had to be cooked onsite (no desserts or deep frying allowed) and incorporate at least one Saint Arnold beer as an ingredient.
A team of 24 judges evaluated entries on overall taste, use and distinction of the Saint Arnold beer in the recipe, and creativity. The One Pot Trophy was awarded to One Pot Potnas for their creation, "Winter Guajillo Pork Soup," featuring Saint Arnold Winter Stout. Team Green Bayou took second place with, "Gumbo des Herbes with Saint Arnold Brown Ale and Lagniappe." Rounding out the top three was 4 Guys, 1 Pot for, "Carne Gui-Stout-A," made with Saint Arnold Winter Stout.

"Beer can be a great ingredient in cooking in addition to being a wonderful beverage to pair with food," said Saint Arnold Founder and Brewer Brock Wagner. "The creativity we saw from the cooking teams went a long way beyond adding some beer to a chili recipe – although that works well too. We hope making these recipes available will encourage craft beer lovers to try them for their Super Sunday parties."
This year's event featured 60 percent more teams and over 1,000 people circulating among the booths trying the various takes on chili, curry and soup. Over $5,000 was raised for Kids' Meals (http://www.kidsmealshouston.org/), a local organization that delivers nutritious meals to children in need.
For those who don't want to spend the day of the Big Game in the kitchen, Saint Arnold will welcome Wayne Mueller of Legendary Texas barbecue joint Louie Mueller Barbecue for the first ever BBQ Block Party at Saint Arnold. The event, presented in collaboration with the Houston Barbecue Festival, will kick off at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 2nd and will wrap up at 2 p.m. Mueller, a 3rd generation owner and pitmaster, will make the drive from Taylor, Texas with his mobile barbecue rig filled with brisket, links and beef ribs to serve barbecue for the first time in Houston.
