From Center of The Universe:

ASHLAND, VA – Thursday, January 23, 2014/mbb/ – The wait is almost over. COTU’s Scotchtown will officially be released Friday, January 31st in the tasting room.

Scotchtown is COTU’s take on a classic Scottish-style ale.  Brewed with eight different malts, including roasted barley and smoked malt, Scotchtown is a distinctly malt-forward beer.  East Kent Goldings hops add a subtle bitterness, just enough to balance the rich malt flavor.  Deep amber in color, Scotchtown weighs in at 7.0% ABV and has 38 IBUS.

Scotchtown is named after the one-time home of Patrick Henry, about 10 miles northwest of Ashland. Patrick Henry lived at Scotchtown when he wrote his famous, “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech. He was also living at Scotchtown when he was elected Governor of Virginia in 1776.

Scotchtown was a big hit when it was released last year around this time, which is why Center of the Universe decided to make it one of their seasonal offerings. COTU’s Barrel Aged version of Scotchtown (which will be released shortly after Scotchtown), was featured in BeerAdvocate Magazine last year.

Scotchtown will be available on draft and in bottles at the brewery and select accounts in the Richmond and Ashland area. Look for Barrel Aged Scotchtown in mid-late February.
