The three friends — Jade Stunkel, Mike Klimek and Caleb Pollard — used their diverse backgrounds to open the Scratchtown Brewing Company in downtown Ord.
All three of them are self-described “beer enthusiasts.” While hanging out and drinking various craft beers from around the state, they started talking about starting their own brewery in the Sandhills.
One year ago this week, they bought an empty lot that still had the rubble from the previously condemned building lying around. They hired local contractors to construct the building, which opened Oct. 4.
Pollard noted that as long ago as 2009, he got the idea that Ord would be well positioned to support a brewery.
