From Iron Hill:
WILMINGTON, DE – Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, with ten locations across the mid-Atlantic region, is proud to announce that Media, PA Head Brewer Bob Barrar brought home his 16th medal from this year’s prestigious Great American Beer Festival (GABF), held this past weekend in Denver, CO. Marking their 17th consecutive year as GABF medal winners, this latest win brings Iron Hill’s company-wide total to 39 medals.
“We are tremendously proud of all our talented brewers, particularly Bob, who routinely represents the best of what we do at Iron Hill; we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate 17 years of consecutive wins as a team, and we’re raising our mugs to many, many more,” says Director of Brewing Operations Mark Edelson.
With an increased number of breweries across America, the GABF brewery registration for judging was swiftly filled. Iron Hill was only able to enter four beers into the 2013 competition, which makes Iron Hill’s participation – and their win – the most significant since their first, in 1997.
Barrar’s Russian Imperial Stout, a silver medal winner for “Imperial Stout,” is Iron Hill’s most decorated beer (GABF bronze medal 2012; GABF silver medal 2011; GABF gold medal 2010; GABF gold medal 2006; GABF gold medal 2003; WBC gold medal 2012; WBC gold medal 2010; WBC bronze medal 2006): “A full-bodied beer that starts with a complex malty sweet and high roasted character, Russian Imperial Stout is wonderfully balanced with the generous use of citrusy American hops.”
The GABF is an annual event celebrating the best in American brewing culture. This year’s competition saw its biggest panel of judges ever, with 201 beer experts from 11 countries evaluating 4,809 entries, with assistance from more than 130 competition volunteers. Award-winning brewers received prestigious gold, silver and bronze medals in 84 beer categories covering 138 different beer styles (encompassing subcategories), establishing the best examples of each style in the U.S. Winners were chosen from 4,809 competition entries from 732 breweries, hailing from 49 states, plus Washington, D.C.
