HB 1341 will allow licensed Oklahoma breweries to offer samples to the public November 1st
Tulsa, OK. April 22, 2013/mbb/ - Oklahoma House Bill HB 1341, sought to amend Section 521 of Title 37 to permit licensed brewers of beer in Oklahoma to provide limited free samples to the visitors to the licensed brewery premises. The measure was signed April 22nd by Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallen and will take effect November 1st. The bill, introduced January 15th, cleared the Oklahoma House of Representatives on February 26th before being referred to the Senate floor where it received a 35-9 passing vote April 16th. HB1341 was a joint effort among Oklahoma brewers as well as the newly formed Oklahoma Craft Brewers Guild.
The credit for the successful lobbying of HB1341 belongs to craft beer supporters in Oklahoma for contacting their legislators effectively to gain support for this grassroots bill. A late assist is credited to the Brewers Association, an organization of brewers, for brewers and by brewers, for activating their Support Your Local Brewer network to garner support ahead of the Senate floor vote. "We could not be more pleased with the support we had from Oklahoma through the legislative process and finally in conclusion the governor signing HB 1341," states Wes Alexander, Marshall Brewing Director of Sales & Marketing. "We feel this bill will help Oklahoma's breweries grow craft culture through education and advocacy to all of Oklahoma, as well as develop a base for tourism in the region."
Oklahoma breweries will have sufficient time to prepare sampling areas and logistics ahead of the November 1st effective date of HB1341. Those interested in tours should follow their local breweries on social media for updates to scheduling and procedure.
