Saint Paul, MN - Summit Brewing Company announces that its Sept. 8 Backyard Bash raised $18,364 for the nonprofit Minnesota Music Coalition (MMC). For the past two years, Summit has donated 50 percent of the ticket proceeds from its annual birthday event to the organization.

“We’re extremely happy to give back to the community and to do our part to promote the mission of the MMC,” said Mark Stutrud, founder of Summit and MMC board member. “Local music and the Arts are close to our hearts at Summit and we’re proud to support independent artists and the growth of local music in Minnesota.”

The MMC offers education, communication, advocacy and professional development services through its statewide network for independent musicians. In addition, the MMC’s “Caravan Du Nord” each fall promotes educational programs in communities throughout the state with performances from Twin Cities and local artists.

In addition to the Backyard Bash, Summit continues its long history of charitable giving in the community by donating its Ratskeller space for use by nonprofits, business groups and technical organizations. Summit estimates the donation of the space, bar staff and discounted beer to be approximately $125,000 annually, and in-kind donations to non-profits and fundraisers totaled $37,000 in 2012. For more information on the use of the Ratskeller for community events and fundraisers, please visit Summit’s donations page.
