Flying Dog - The Super Bowl of brewmaster Beer-Bets

imageFrom Flying Dog:

Our Brewmaster Matt Brophy greets each new day by listening to our National Anthem as imaginary tears flow down his eye black-stained cheeks. As the last verse rings through his ears, he contemplates what it truly means to live in “the land of the free” and thinks of new ways to incorporate his favorite hobby — winning friends through the art of the friendly wager — into his already amazing day job.

So far, our Brewmaster bookie is 2-0 with our Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. Most thought it couldn’t be done, but Brophy took on each opponent with tenacity and drive not seen in the weeks leading up to those games.

First up was Adam Avery, of Avery Brewing Company. The terms? Whoever’s team lost would send the winning brewery a case of rare beers. And in a nail-biting finish, our Ravens prevailed. Up next was Al Marzi, Brewmaster at Harpoon, with the same terms and the same outcome for Brophy: Our Ravens took the Patriots to pound town.

Now that the Super Bowl* is upon us, Brophy isn’t losing steam**. In fact, he’s taking on Anchor Brewing Company and their 49ers with even higher stakes: The losing brewery will pour the winning brewery’s beer in their taproom for a week by a staff clad in the champion team’s gear.

“We get one opportunity in life, one chance at life to do whatever you’re going to do, and lay your foundation and make whatever mark you’re going to make,” Brophy said. “Whatever legacy you’re going to leave; leave your legacy!”

I

nspiring-quotes-that-once-read again-don’t-really-make-sense aside, we all know that because God is amazing, Brophy — along with our Baltimore Ravens — will prevail.
