Welsh Brewer Battles Pepsi Over “Bare Naked Beer” vs “Naked Juice” Trademark

image
Hard to believe but Pepsi is bringing legal action against a small Welsh brewery called Artisan Brewery stating that they must cease the use of “Bare Naked Beer” because somehow people may confuse Pepsi’s trademarked “Naked Juice” fruit drinks with Welsh beer…and yes in their infinite wisdom, a court has found in favor of Pepsi.

I don’t know about you, but I know I’m constantly confusing fruit juice drinks with beer…why just yesterday I drank half a can of Hawaiian Punch before I realized it was not beer.  When will corporate America realize that these sort of stories ALWAYS backfire….and I suspect this will ultimately end in a negative story for Naked Juice and Pepsi.   This from Walesonline:

But Simon Doherty, the man behind the Pontcanna-based Artisan Brewery, has been told he can no longer sell drinks under the Bare Naked Beer banner by drinks giant Pepsi.

Two years ago PepsiCo, the second largest food and drink manufacturer in the world, said the registered trademark on the product was too similar to the upmarket Naked Juice fruit drinks that it makes.

A court has now ruled in PepsiCo’s favour.
