New Belgium Chooses Architect in NC & Sierra Nevada Works With NC D.O.T.

imageWith bothimage new Belgium & Sierra Nevada moving into ND, it’s interesting to follow along.  New Belgium choosing Perkins & Wills as their architect,  Sierra Nevada is working with the NC D.O.T. to make sure the infrastructure is in place.  This from Citizen-times for NB:

The brewer has already settled on an architect, Perkins & Wills, out of Charlotte to draw up plans for the building. “But we haven’t even set pen to paper,” said David Giesser of the Charlotte office.

More detailed plans and preliminary drawings will take shape through the summer, but the biggest news coming out of the meetings for now is that New Belgium plans to build only a brewery on the banks of the French Broad.

Spenser said the company wants to build a facility of up to 140,000 square feet, which will start out producing about 400,000 barrels of craft beer annually. Down the road, production could scale up to 700,000 barrels a year.

To store all that beer, New Belgium will seek a separate warehouse elsewhere in Asheville, Spenser said.  Full details here.

And this from Blueridgenow about Sierra Nevada:

It’s critical to preserve that infrastructure while we can and not let it get to a place where it’s going to fail or have to be shut down,” Conti said, “because we would hate to shut down an interstate in North Carolina. We had to do that with the rock slide a couple of years ago (on I-40), and it’s not a good situation.”

Other major projects include the widening of Upward Road from Spartanburg Highway to Howard Gap Road and the recently completed U.S. Highway 25 widening.

DOT also will become involved next year with transportation infrastructure improvements at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. complex at Ferncliff Industrial Park in Mills River.

“They did contact us and discussed what we could do, and we put together a quick program to improve the road, add some aesthetic features to the road,” said DOT Division Engineer Joel Seltzer. “I don’t know if the road was the last thing to cross off their list before they decided (to expand here), but, fortunately, with the road enhancements and what we were able to do as a department and with what other people were able to do, they did select the Mills River site, so now we have to live up to our promises.”  Full details here.
