Breaker Brewing Co - Switches from Coal to Shale Gas

No I’m NOT talking about how they’ll be heating the brewery, or brewing the beer…in a stunning label release this morning, the long-term future of Breaker Brewing Co may have been revealed. I present for you this morning your first peek at a new beer coming from Breaker Brewing Co. called Shale Energy Saison. This BIG Belgian Style Saison will be released in their traditional 22oz bottles, but this Saison comes with more than one BIG twist.

Of lesser news is the fact that Shale Energy Saison will use locally sourced coffee from NEPABeans for an interesting “energy” twist on a traditional Belgian-style Saison. This looks to be decidedly dark along the lines of some of the recent dark-Saisons & Black-IPA’s we’ve seen coming out of other breweries…but wait there’s more.

To quote the label, Shale Energy Saison “Born in the New Traditions of local PA Shale Energy, We pay tribute to this rebirth of fuel in PA with a non-traditional Belgian-style Saison. To boost up our natural energy further, we've infused locally grown coffee roasted over a fire fueled with PA natural shale gas. To this NEW energy Tradition we say Cheers!”

Is Breaker Brewing Co really switching their THEME from a Coal-Mining tradition to reflect the new Shale Gas traditions in Pennsylvania? I reached out to Mark Lehman & Chris Miller for comment and Chris said, “We want to keep up with the times in PA and adopt a new generation of craft-beer drinkers. Most new craft beer drinkers of legal age don’t remember coal mining and they are growing up in a world with Shale Gas being the new energy tradition of their generation.” And while Mark admitted it would be difficult to change the legal naming of the brewery itself, they were looking toward a more “modern logo to keep up with the times.”

Mark & Chris both admitted that Shale Energy Saison is the first in a series of new and re-named beers, and we can expect to see 16-Ton DIPA, Black Mariah and possibly even Lunch Pale Ale renamed under the new theme, so stay tuned for further details!
