Beer Sales Drop Outside Pine Ridge Indian Reservation After Lawsuit & VP Of Tribe Arrested on Alcohol Charges

imageAP is reporting that beer sales have plummeted in Lincoln Nebraska, just outside the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  The tribe recently sued major beer companies claiming they were illegally distributing beer to a dry Indian reservation.

New data obtained by The Associated Press from Nebraska Liquor Control Commission the show the number of cases of beer and malt liquor sold in the dusty, 11-person town fell 13 percent in 2011. Sales had been climbing for years, from about 117,500 cases of beer in 2007 to 206,600 in 2010.  Full Story Here

In another interesting twist, the VP of the tribe was also recently arrested on alcohol-related charges!

The vice president of an American Indian tribe suing some of the world's largest beer makers was arrested and jailed for what police say was an alcohol-related incident on a dry reservation, but he insisted Thursday that the incident was racially motivated and that he wasn't drinking.

Thomas Poor Bear was arrested Feb. 19 on the Pine Ridge Reservation on a charge of obstructing government function while receiving treatment at a hospital, according to a police report The Associated Press obtained from a reservation resident who had access due to his ties with the tribal government.
