The Wall St Journal’s Market watch is reporting
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Retail beer sales rose more than 2% to about $98 billion last year, the Beer Institute said Monday. Much of that growth came from higher-end craft and imports, the trade group said, citing Nielsen data. On-premise sales, i.e. those at bars and restaurants, were up 3% to $55 billion while off-premise sales edged up a bit less than 1%. "Beer continues to be the preferred alcohol beverage of Americans," said Joe McClain, president of the Beer Institute, in announcing the sales figures. "The beer industry continues to enjoy the largest share of revenue and volume within the alcohol beverage sector when compared to wine and spirits. "
