Bob Dylan remains both pop’s greatest songwriter and its greatest enigma. In theaters on January 17 across the UK, Timothée Chalamet stars and sings as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s new film A Complete Unknown, the electrifying true story behind Dylan’s meteoric rise from hard-scrabbling vagabond to rock-and-roll icon. Dylan’s artistic evolution was fast-moving, and Gibson acoustic guitars were a constant feature. Gibson’s acoustic guitar luthiers worked closely with the film’s production team including Executive Music Producer Nick Baxter. A variety of Gibsons were used during the filming and recording sessions for A Complete Unknown, striving for pinpoint historical accuracy when it came to instruments, sonics, and recording signal chains. Most of the Gibson and Epiphone guitars throughout the film continue to be handcrafted at the Gibson acoustic craftory in Bozeman, Montana.

As part of Gibson’s ongoing partnership with the film A Complete Unknown, the Gibson Garage London performances in January by John Clapper, Conor Clarke, Natalie Shay, and Scarlette will include performances of songs inspired by the film, and Bob Dylan.

Also at the Gibson Garage London, music and film lovers can explore Gibson’s A Complete Unknown: The Collection, a specially curated selection of Gibson acoustic instruments inspired by and used during the filming and soundtrack recording sessions. View Gibson’s A Complete Unknown: The Collection is available worldwide on Gibson.com https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Collection/a-complete-unknown.

YOUNG KNIVES

Hailing from Oxford, England, post-punk revivalists the Young Knives—comprised of brothers Henry Dartnall (vocals, guitars) and Thomas Bonsu-Dartnall (vocals, bass, keyboards)--issued their debut EP The Young Knives... Are Dead in 2002. Three years later, the trio was playing shows alongside the Futureheads and Hot Hot Heat while readying a second EP for Transgressive. The limited-edition Junky Music Make My Heart Beat Faster sold out quickly, and was followed by The Decision. Shows with the Rakes and Dirty Pretty Things wowed the U.K., and the group’s debut full-length, Voices of Animals and Men, arrived in 2006. Superabundance followed in 2008 before the band decamped to Los Angeles to record 2011’s Ornaments from the Silver Arcade. Both 2013’s Sick Octave and 2020’s Barbarians found them in an experimental mood, before their forthcoming album, the knowingly titled Landfill found them returning to the angular sounds of their earliest material. Landfill was produced by the band in their studio in Oxfordshire and mixed by Mike Lindsay of Tuung.
