Building the backbone of Field Study

Last week, Alan Gladish of Double Eagle Malt made a road trip to Mount Joy, PA, a mere 20 miles from Tröegs. We met him alongside a combine and acres of two-row barley to witness the annual harvest by brothers and farmers Dustin and Cody Musser. “These kernels are plump and clean enough to go straight from the field and into the malting process,” said Alan. “But we’ll run about 15 tests and let them rest for four to six months to ensure we get the best yield of Rustic Pale Malt.” These grains will lend slightly nutty and cereal-like notes and help build the backbone of Field Study Summer IPA.
