“People have been asking for a re-release of this one,” said Founder, James Neumeister. “We knew we had to bring it back.”
Ground Breaker uses over three hundred pounds of flaked quinoa in the recipe to give the beer a pillowy mouthfeel. The main focus, however, is on the hops. “The hops bring a spring feel to the beer,” said Head Brewer, Gloria Zeiger. “Notes of bright, juicy grapefruit.”
While the brewery is proud of the beer itself, the artwork is another point of pride for this release. James drew inspiration for the idea through one of his many visits to the Columbia River Gorge. Working with Peggy Pfenninger of P-Town Prints + Designs! and Georgia-based artist, Lindsey Hopkins, James was able to make his vision a reality. Graduates of Savannah College of Art & Design (though graduating years apart), Peggy and Lindsey met on Instagram while participating in The 100 Day Project during the first year of the pandemic.
Calypso is available at the Ground Breaker tasting room located at 2030 SE 7th Ave. Portland, Oregon. It will soon be available in Ground Breaker Brewing's distributed territories.
