Surly Takes Home Honors At The Minnesota Brewers Cup

Minnesota’s craft beer industry demands excellence. Surly is surrounded by incredible breweries and we know the skill and dedication they put into every single drop. It pushes us to do our best work and honor that commitment to quality.

Minnesota’s craft beer industry also rewards excellence. Our home state’s Craft Brewers Guild held their Minnesota Brewers Cup last week, and we were thrilled to take home three awards, including the event’s highest honor, a First Place for Best in Show to Axe Man IPA.

Head brewer Ben Smith reiterated the importance of the brewing culture that extends from the Twin Cities to every corner of the state.

“This is an awesome beer community,” he said. “All of us deserve this award because we all elevate each other to make better beer and work together.”

In addition to its Best in Show win, Axe Man took first place in the American IPA category. Mosh Pit Juicy Pale Ale also grabbed 3rd place honors in the Amber, Brown, and Pale Ale slot.

This recognition follows a raft of honors from the Untappd Community Awards, where the app’s Minnesota users sent a staggering 22 medals our way, including sweeps in the Russian Imperial Stout and Strong Ale categories.

We don’t make beers to win trophies. But when peers and beer drinkers alike tell us we’re doing something right, we’re humbled and grateful. Thank you.

Cheers to our fellow brewers, and cheers to you. Support Minnesota beer!
