SAN DIEGO, CA – The Original 40 Brewing Company today released Keepin’ It Rillo West Coast IPA on draft and in four packs of 16-oz cans at its North Park brew pub. Head Brewer Zack Kaplan made the announcement.
Keepin’ It Rillo is 6.8% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), and it was double dry hopped with Amarillo, Mosaic, Mosaic Cryo, and Chinook hops. The beer has aromas of pineapple, mango, grapefruit, and pine.
“As brewers, we constantly search for the finest ingredients and combinations that get us to our desired flavor and aroma,” Kaplan said. “This combo hits the mark for us. It drinks nice and dry with a balanced bitterness and medium body, pouring golden yellow with a nice, white, foamy head.”
The name Keepin’ It Rillo pays homage to the Amarillo hops, which is the focus hop of the beer and a classic West Coast IPA hop variety. They were sourced from Yakima, Wash.’s Virgil Gamache Farms, the birthplace of Amarillo hops.
“We are keeping it real and throwing it back to a more classic West Coast hop combo,” Kaplan said.
The dog-friendly Original 40, which was named after the original 40-acre parcel of land that became modern day North Park, is located at 3117 University Avenue. Doors are open until 10:00 p.m. Sunday – Wednesday and until 12:00 midnight Thursday – Saturday.
“When that sun is high in that San Diego sky, we’ll be drinkin’ at our brew pub this latest creation from Zack,” said Original 40 founder Steve Billings.
Original 40 was voted as one of San Diego’s Best Micro Brew Pubs in The San Diego Union-Tribune’s 2023 Readers Poll. Only 10 made the list. The Flatbread of the Month for February is the Korean BBQ with short rib, cilantro sriracha coleslaw, house-pickled cucumbers, and green onion garnish. The Burger of the Month is the Baja Burger with spicy pepper jack cheese, sriracha aioli, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and red onion.
