My Local Brew Works - Custom Craft Brewing for a Hoppy Holiday Season

My Local Brew Works (MLBW), the world's first custom craft brewery for both event and contract brewing, located in Philadelphia's industrial-chic Globe Dye Works building, offers an exciting and out-of-the-box holiday gift in their Custom Craft Brewing Package, perfect for beer novices and aficionados alike. Both gift-givers and recipients of the package have the ability to join the MLBW team in brewing their own custom beer with full creative control of beer style, recipe, name, and more.

Whether guests are craft beer connoisseurs or brewing beginners, the MLBW team has decades of experience and knowledge to make custom craft dreams into reality. From choosing the grain to designing the label, participants can be as hands-on or off as desired. Importantly, Custom Craft Brewing guests aren’t just brewing beer, but learning about all aspects of the craft, from the shape of pint glass to the flavor of beer’s finish. Those partaking in the full-length Bespoke Brewing Package can expect about a six hour long-experience including the following:

  • A pre-brew day consultation on beer theme, style, quantity, and other factors held over the phone or in-person at the brewery
  • A tour of Globe Dye Works led by My Local Brew Works
  • A tour of the brewery and discussion of hops, grain bill, yeast selection, aroma sampling mashing process, and more, followed by start of brewing
  • Catered lunch with beer tastings and samples
  • Post-lunch brewing with final hops (and other additives)
  • A celebratory toast with MLBW beer and branded gifts given to all guests

Pricing varies based on a number of factors including volume of beer brewed, fermentation time, ingredients, label design, and catering preferences, but averages at $120 per person.

“The holidays are time of gathering, and we want to bring back that communal aspect to brewing beer,” says Wayne Humphrey, co-founder of MLBW, “No other brewery is letting you add grain or pitch the hops yourself; everything is automized and behind glass. They say it’s the thought that counts, but we think the experience is so much more powerful.”

ABOUT MY LOCAL BREW WORKS

My Local Brew Works (MLBW) takes a multifaceted approach to nano-brewing, thriving in both contract brewing and special event brewing. Founded by 2020’s Home Sweet Homebrau Competition People’s Choice winners, Wayne Humphrey and Tim Montague, MLBW began back in 2010 when the two began homebrewing a Philadelphia backyard. What makes MLBW different from other craft breweries is its ability and ingenuity in creating several beers in different styles and strengths from the same original mash, and the unique Custom Craft Brewing experience it offers for clients who want a say in the brewing process, to brew with friends, to foster teambuilding, to commemorate a special occasion, or for any other reason. MLBW derives its name from the British expression “my local”, meaning one’s favorite area or village pub, a phrase Tim picked up while working on his PhD in England (and developing his passion for beer). My Local Brew Works is located In the Frankford neighborhood of Philadelphia, nestled in the historic Globe Dye Works building.
