I’ve never been lucky enough to visit Legion Brewing in Charlotte, NC, but thankfully today they are visiting me. Just a few weeks ago I brought you the news that Legion Brewing was releasing a new seasonal beer called Double Juicy Jay and today they were kind enough to send me a sample.

Legion Brewing Double Juicy Jay will be a double version of their popular Juicy Jay IPA and it will actually be the first time this seasonal has ever been brewed. The beer was released on Oct 15th in 16oz cans and of course I’m excited to get my hands on this east-coast IPA, so off we go…
Legion Brewing Double Juicy Jay
ABV: 9.6%
IBU: 104
Style: East Coast IPA
Packaging: 16oz cans
Appearance: Bright golden orange
Aroma: Citrus, Mango and tropical fruit
Mouthfeel: Robust
Taste: Juicy citrus, orange peel, tropical fruit, mango and dull sweet honey
Overall: Double Juicy Jay has a lot of good things going on and I think it’s no surprise that the original Juicy Jay IPA was so popular. The beer is loaded with hop flavors (104 IBU) and it is nicely balanced by a slightly sweet malt profile and a sweet honey background note. The fruit-forward flavors really work well in the mix and the overall combination is really drinkable and enjoyable even with it’s sneaky 9.6%-AbV and lightly bitter hop finish.
Double Juicy Jay is available now in 16oz canned 4-packs so get out there and try one for your self, or better yet, get down to Legion Brewing and try one at the brewery…and when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
