Forbidden Root Restaurant and Brewery (1746 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago), an innovator in craft brewing, which opened in Chicago in 2016, was just named the Best Brewpub in the United States by USA Today 2022 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. This is the second year in a row in which Forbidden Root was included in this select group of finalists. See the complete list HERE.
The top distinction comes after a comprehensive nomination and voting process run by USA Today. According to USA Today, top 20 “nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of relevant experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY; editors from 10Best.com; relevant expert contributors; and sources for both these media and other Gannett properties.” After four week of voting, the top 10 list is released, and a top brewpub is named.
“Forbidden Root is thrilled to receive this honor from USA Today and its readers,” says Robert Finkel, Forbidden Root Rootmaster. “From the moment we opened our doors, we have worked to provide elevated food, great beer and a compelling experience for our guests; it is wonderful to be recognized in this way, especially among the stellar company on this list.”

About Forbidden Root
Forbidden Root is the one of the first commercial botanic breweries in the country and aims to bring the rich American tradition of brewing with natural ingredients into the modern craft brewing scene. Sourcing sustainable ingredients, when possible, Forbidden Root’s mission is to provide a unique fermented beverage experience by designing brews around unconventional beer ingredients. The use of non-standard fermentations and a wooden barrel-aging program to flavor beer, combined with blending and a light touch on flavor creates beers that are highly unique, yet maintain a balanced drinkability.
Forbidden Root Restaurant and Brewery has two locations in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood and in Columbus, Ohio. Its third brewpub location Cultivate by Forbidden Root is located in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood.
