Kihei, Hawaii (May 18, 2022) – Kupu Spirits is pleased to announce that the esteemed American Distilling Institute (“ADI”) has awarded Kupu Spirits two medals at the ADI 2022 International Spirits Competition. The brand’s bottled Whiskey won a Silver Medal, while it’s ready-to-drink Whiskey Ginger cocktail won a Bronze Medal in their respective category and class.
Kupu Spirits Whiskey is distilled from a blend of corn, rye, and malted barley then aged on the slopes of Haleakala in new charred American oak. The 88 proof Whiskey is an exceptional expression of caramel and vanilla building to peppery spicy notes with a hint of nuttiness.
The ready-to-enjoy craft cocktail, Whiskey Ginger, blends Kupu Spirits Whiskey with Maui Brewing Company’s Island Ginger Beer, which is created in-house using all-natural ingredients such as cane sugar, local honey, and Hawaii-grown ginger. The Whiskey Ginger has an ABV of 7%.
Lead Distiller, Nick Reiss stated, “We are humbled by the medals awarded for our Spirits and RTDs. As Lead Distiller, I'm grateful to see the sweat and sleepless nights put in from our team get such great recognition. Kupu Spirits is a proud member of American Distilling Institution and “mahalo” for all the support over the years. "
Kupu Spirits is set to launch on the mainland this summer in markets where Maui Brewing Company can be found.
Since 2007, the American Distilling Institute began the annual “Judging of Craft Spirits,” the oldest and largest competition dedicated to craft spirits. The competition recognizes distillers providing the finest quality artisan spirits. This year, approximately 950 entries were received from the US and international countries for evaluation across 81 categories and classes within those categories.

In the Hawaiian language, the word “kupu” means “to sprout” or “to grow.” The name Kupu Spirits was chosen to symbolize the brand as an offshoot of Maui Brewing Company, operating with a mission aligned to the same independent values, sustainability practices, and commitment to craft as its parent brand.
