From 10 Barrel:
Hella Hectic
Copper Mountain, Colo., Saturday, April 23rd - Brave skiers, snowboarders, women, men, adaptive athletes and teams competed in 10 Barrel Brewing and Copper Mountain’s Hella Hectic event, a skier/boarder - cross type event that pitted four racers head-to-head on a custom banked slalom course built into Red’s Backyard just above Copper Mountain’s Center Village.
Hella Hectic women's podium.
The main event started on Saturday at 10am MST after the Copper Events crew worked to clear a layer of ice from the pond skim. Winter conditions with more than five-inches of new snow and temperatures in the mid-20s met the racers, who were likely expecting a much warmer splash through the courses finishing pond skim.
The star studded field included Olympians Casey Pucket (5x Olympian, Skicross), Zach Miller (1x Paralympian, Banked Slalom, Snowboardcross), Garrett Geros (1x Paralympian, Banked Slalom, Snowboardcross), Patrick Halgren (1x Paralympian, Banked Slalom, Snowboardcross), Nate Holland (3x Olympian, Snowboardcross), Freeride World Tour rider - Audrey Hebert, US Ski Team member - Senna Leith, Big Air Pro - Gwynnie Park, Dew Tour competitor - Ryan Wachendorfer and many more. Willis Kimble skate PDX YouTube Edit - Did you see it?
Pub Beer Takes Over Portland - Kick back, crack a pubbie, and give it a watch.
In this Pub Beer inspired skate session Willis Kimbel and friends attack rugged NW terrain full of elbow grease and cheap lagers. It’s Portland skating at its finest with Burnside, St. Johns pier park, big walls, and deep pools all represented.
“My father Curt Kimbel was a professional skateboarder in the 70’s and pioneered all sorts of parts of the way it’s done,” said Willis Kimbel. “Respecting that tradition 50 years later is a big part of the truth behind the approach to this piece. Skating the rough skateparks, big walls with pool coping let alone actual swimming pools.I care about preserving and sharing that side of skateboarding because I owe it to skateboarding after all it has shown me to learn and love.”
