It should come as no surprise to anyone that follows my website that I really love the beers coming out of Tröegs Independent Brewing in Hershey, PA…and while I think my favorite will always be Nugget Nectar, the beers I’m highlighting today are a really close second to Nugget. zzubreebym
Every holiday season I look forward to the release of Tröegs Mad Elf, but as a lover of all things hoppy and of course chocolate stouts, this season is always an enjoyable time of year to enjoy a Tröegs beer. With that in mind, I was really excited to receive a care package at mybeerbuzz headquarters today from Tröegs.
Today I’ll be enjoying Tröegs Mad Elf, Blizzard of Hops and Grand Cacao. These beers join Perpetual IPA, Troegenator and Dreamweaver in The Most Wonderful Beer Of The Year Hops & Holiday Variety 12-Pack and if you’re like me, this pack will constantly be in your ‘fridge for the next month or two.
I look forward to the annual release of Mad Elf and as always, I really enjoyed tasting it again. This holiday ale is brewed with Bing, Lambert, Van, Royal Ann and Montmorency cherries as well as Pennsylvania wildflower honey, chocolate malt and a “hint of mischief.” The beer also uses spicy Belgian yeast to add in subtle notes of cinnamon and other cookie spices. At 11%-AbV, Mad Elf will get your attention, but in a really good way. If you’ve never tried Mad Elf, you’re missing a great beer.
Since I’ve already sampled and written about Grand Cacao, I’ll just reinforce how good a chocolate stout this beer is. It is loaded with satisfying chocolate flavors and I find this one of my go-to stouts even when the weather isn’t cold which is a good thing since this beer will now be year-round.
Last but not least is the winter Hop Cycle release of Blizzard Of Hops. This winter IPA was created to “toast hop growers around the world for another successful season” and it is brewed with Centennial, Chinook, El Dorado and Galaxy hops. Blizzard Of Hops threads the needle between citrus and resinous pine flavors perfectly and with each sip, you’ll find more to like about it. I love the flavors and I also love the somewhat-sessionable 6.4%-AbV as well as the availability of 12oz bottles and 12oz cans (safe for any drunk uncle).A big thank you to Tröegs for the early holiday surprise swag, and of course the really tasty beers. If you haven’t tried Tröegs Mad Elf, Blizzard Of Hops or Grand Cacao, now is a great time to get out there and try them for yourself, in fact you should buy the whole Hops & Holiday Variety 12-Pack and try all of the new and classic beers from Tröegs…and when you do try them, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
