If you love beer and you’re not familiar with Innis & Gunn, you probably should be. Launched in 2003, this Scottish brewery uses oak casks for maturation and many other traditional brewing techniques to deliver some really good beers. Innis & Gunn has now become the 3rd largest craft beer brand in the UK and the number one imported craft beer in Canada.
With that in mind I was excited to get a care package arriving at mybeerbuzz headquarters from Innis & Gunn. The beer we’ll be sampling today is called Caribbean Rum Cask and it is a Scottish red beer that is matured in Caribbean Rum casks. Of course I’m anxious to try this unique combination, so off we go…
Innis & Gunn Caribbean Rum Cask
ABV: 6.8%
Style: Red Beer
Packaging: 330ml bottles
Appearance: Reddish copper
Aroma: Biscuit malt and Rum
Mouthfeel: Medium
Taste: Rum, chocolate, mild citrus and roasty malt
Overall: Innis & Gunn Caribbean Rum Cask has some really unique flavor combinations going on. I found notes of fresh citrus and chocolate with lots of slightly sweet Rum notes on board. There is a roasty quality to the flavors and overall it was a really drinkable yet complex beer that was easy to enjoy.
Innis & Gunn Caribbean Rum Cask is available now in 330ml 6-packs so get out there ad try this beer for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
