Surly Releasing Moving Pictures Juicy IPA Cans

Moving Pictures is Surly’s first new beer of 2021. As we’ve discovered with social media, some claims need to be examined more closely to determine their veracity. We’re offering this guide to help you be a better Surly consumer. (We considered calling this Fake Brews but quickly thought better of it.)

TRUE: It’s a juicy IPA.

FALSE: It’s named after the Rush album.

TRUE: “Limelight” wails, though. Neal Peart RIP.

FALSE: It’s piney and super bitter.

TRUE: Expect notes of grapefruit, tangerine, mango, and papaya from Amarillo, El Dorado, Mosaic, and Lotus dry-hopping.

FALSE: It’s unavailable until 2021.

TRUE: It’s our first seasonal of 2021, but it will begin hitting shelves the week of December 14th at select locations before hitting the rest of our distribution footprint later. 2020 has been a Dumpster Fire and you deserve a fresh new IPA for the holidays.

TRUE: Moving Pictures is another way of saying “movie.”

FALSE: Moving Pictures is another way of saying “Moby, the bald DJ guy. Remember him?”

TRUE: You can find Moving Pictures in six-packs of 12-oz. cans.

  • ABV: 6.5%
  • Hops: Warrior (wort kettle), Amarillo, El Dorado, Mosaic, Lotus (dry-hopping)
  • Malt: 2-Row, Golden Naked Oats, Flaked Oats, Cara 20, Acidulated Malt
  • Yeast: English Ale
  • Pour: Golden
  • Bitterness: Medium
