As the middle child of three brothers, I can only vaguely remember my younger brother as a baby. He was born in the late 1960’s and at the time, I was only 8-years old. I don’t remember if my parents were ready for him as a new baby, but I do remember all sorts of things coming back out of the basement from my childhood to get ready for the new baby.
It was a different time in the 1960’s and the baby playing field has changed significantly. After spending the last 9-months watching a family remember prepare for her first baby, I can tell you that I had no idea how complicated it really was. Yes I was aware that the baby would need all sorts of food and clothing, but I had no idea how many other things were involved. With that in mind, I thought it would be helpful to others to see if your life is ready for your new baby.
As a baby, I’m pretty sure I sat loose in mom’s lap in the car with no seatbelt, but things have changed. Safety and more specifically safety of your baby while he or she is in the car is an important and potentially expensive consideration. This begins with a car seat, but it’s not always quite that simple. Your choice of a baby car seat should start with the baby. Choose a seat that is appropriate to your baby’s size and weight and one that meets your baby’s safety needs. Also choose a seat that can grow in adjustability as your baby grows. Next be sure to investigate your vehicle or vehicles. The way your car seat attaches in your vehicles can be very different and may also dictate your cat seat choice. Portability is also critical. Many people go as far as choosing one baby seat for each car, but keep in mind that this may not be the most affordable choice. You can find a baby seat that easily adapts to multiple vehicles and is easy to safely install as well.
After your baby seat choice has been made, be sure to also check out accessories for comfort and safety. I never realized there are specific devices to allow your baby to comfortably sleep in the car seat and even head support harnesses to make the seats safer. Be sure to browse to andystork.com to see some of the great choices.
Outside the car, there are many other choices to transport your baby. Baby carriers have come a long way and they can make it easier to carry your baby safely and efficiently. There are designs to keep your hands free for shopping and working around the house all while keeping your baby secure; and there are even kangaroo-style carriers for the ultimate in freedom and comfort. Keep in mind the weight of your baby can play into the choice for carriers and my family member used Atlantic Scale to be sure they were accurate measurements.
I’ll save the baby electronics, toys and safety measures for my next article but suffice to say that there are ways to monitor your baby’s safety even when you can’t be there. A big thank you to www.bondsexpress.com for help in this article and with our carrier choices.
Deciding if your life is ready for a baby can go well beyond the obvious choices, but as I’ve witnessed, it can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. The choices available today are much more robust than in the 1960’s and this is good news for new parents and parents-to-be.
