From Portland Brewing:
Portland, OR , May 13, 2019 -- Portland Brewing and The Unipiper announced today that after three
months in the market as a bottled and draft offering, Unipiper Hazy IPA is now available in 12oz 6-pack cans. The beer is the first in Portland Brewing’s “Keep Portland Weird” year-round series of
collaborations. The series highlights each collaborator’s contribution to keeping Portland weird while supporting The Unipiper’s nonprofit, Weird Portland United.
In January 2019, The Unipiper teamed up with Portland Brewing, one of the city’s longest-running
breweries, to brew Unipiper Hazy IPA--a 6.2% ABV hoppy beer with a big tropical fruit flavor from Denali and Amarillo dry hops. Portland Brewing donated $5,000 of the beer’s proceeds to kickstart The Unipiper’s new nonprofit, Weird Portland United (WPU). The organization is devoted to discovering and supporting Portland’s weird people and places through Weird Awards, a registry of Weird Historic Places, Weird events and much more.
“Thanks to Portland Brewing’s seed donation, Weird Portland United was able to hit the ground running,” said Brian Kidd, the man behind The Unipiper. “Since launch, we’ve signed up more than 150 individuals and businesses as official Portland Weirdos and we have kicked off several initiatives. Most recently we launched a monthly networking and lecture series called ‘Weird Portland Creatives,’ which helps the community find their creative voice through stories of local weirdos making a difference. Unipiper Hazy IPA has given us tremendous visibility and support as we gain momentum in the city.” In July, Unipiper Hazy IPA will be featured at Best of Portland, where WPU is the designated charity.
WPU will also be highlighted in the Starlight Parade, the Oregon Brewer’s Festival, and at a Portland Pickle’s game. WPU will give out its first grant to help one deserving citizen launch their own vision for a weirder Portland. Finally, preparations are underway for the end of year Weird Portland Gala event featuring a weird art show and the launch of the Weird Portland Hall of Fame.
“Unipiper Hazy IPA is much more than a beer to us, it represents one way that we intentionally support our city’s beautiful culture of weirdness,” said Bruce Kehe, Associate Marketing Director at Portland Brewing. “Now that the beer is in 6-pack cans it will have wider distribution, which means more people will know about our program and we can support The Unipiper, Weird Portland United, and our future ‘Keep Portland Weird’ collaborators in an even greater capacity.” Unipiper Hazy IPA is now available in 6-pack 12oz cans, and on draft, throughout Portland Brewing’s distribution in the Northwest until replaced in August with the next beer in the “Keep Portland Weird” series.
