21st Amendment - The Insurrection Series Turns 10
From 21st Amendment:

If you don’t remember what was going on in the world in 2009, let us give you a quick refresher. This was the year when Kanye infamously stole the mic from T Swift as she accepted her award for Video of the Year at the VMAs. Tina Fey was bringing us all to tears with her Sarah Palin impressions on Saturday Night Live. A plane landed on the Hudson River, Barack Obama was just beginning to settle into his first term as President, and Bernie Madoff pleaded guilty to stealing a lot of money from a lot of people. Believe it or not, Sony was still selling floppy disks.

Things here at 21st Amendment Brewery also looked pretty different in 2009. We were still operating exclusively out of our San Francisco brewpub, where we had just recently begun putting two styles of beer in cans—Brew Free! or Die IPA and Hell or High Watermelon. We were distributing our beer in exactly one state (yep, California!).

Whether you were on team Kanye or Taylor, we understand that for most of you, the highlight of 2009 was the release of our very first Insurrection Series beer—Monk’s Blood!

As we were starting to expand our distribution beyond the walls of our pub, we knew it was important to cultivate the same focus on small batch, limited release beers for our fans, just like our pub had been doing for years. While Brew Free! or Die IPA and Hell or High Watermelon became a year-round flagship and a perennial seasonal, respectively, we also made plans to put a Belgian dark-strong ale in a can. Why? As our Insurrection Series name suggests—these were beers designed to rise up in revolt against common notions of what canned beer can be.

Over the now decade of Insurrection Series history, we’ve followed through on that promise. We’ve canned everything from a Belgian quad, to a kettle sour, to an oyster stout. Most of them only brewed once, never to hit your pint glass again. Until….

We started planning for 2019 and our team began sifting through years’ worth of courier pigeon scrolls, handwritten notes, emails, and social media comments for inspiration. Suddenly, we knew what we needed to do. We picked out the Top 3 most beloved Insurrection Series beers of all time and we put them right back on the brewhouse schedule.

For the 2019 Insurrection Series, we give you:
Toaster Pastry, India Red Ale – March Release
Hop Crisis, Imperial IPA – June Release
Monk’s Blood – Strong Dark Belgian – November Release

All brewed to a T exactly the way you remember them. Same recipe, hell, even the same can design! Because frankly, we can’t wait to read ALL your messages thanking us for FINALLY bringing back one of your favorites. And then we’ll thank you back because we love brewing and drinking all these beers, too.
