Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Widmer Brothers Trail Blazers-Themed Hefeweizen (Review)

Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Widmer Brothers Trail Blazers-Themed HefeweizenI remember the first time I tasted today’s beer like it was yesterday.  It was Labor Day weekend 2002, and after a week of hiking (and a wedding), I found myself at the Yosemite Lodge in Yosemite National Park.
I hadn’t seen television or good beer in over a week, but what stuck with me all these years was just how much I enjoyed that tall Hefe-glass of Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen.  In that very moment, Widmer Hefe checked all of the boxes from flavorful to satisfying, and it just seemed to be the perfect beer for the perfect moment in time.
Jump forward over 16-years and it was really exciting for me to relive a bit of that moment with a new opportunity to sample and write about Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen.  Widmer is launching a new Portland Trail Blazers-themed 16oz can of their Hefeweizen and they were kind enough to send me preview can to try out.Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Widmer Brothers Trail Blazers-Themed Hefeweizen
This packaging commemorates the longest-running craft beer partnership with the NBA and first off I should mention that the cans look great.  You can’t miss who brewed the beer and you definitely can’t miss who it is brewed for with Widmer Brothers and the Portland Trail Blazers logos very prominent on the white packaging.  Of course 16-ounces is the perfect size for this beer and the can packaging is also spot-on for sporting events….so off we go.
Widmer Hefeweizen pours a slightly hazy golden color with a large frothy white head and some really nice aromas of wheat, banana and a touch of clove spicy-ness.  The body is a bit lighter than a full-on traditional Hefe, but for me that makes it even more drinkable and satisfying.  There are plenty of classic flavors on board like wheat malt, banana, a bit of spice and a nice citrus and lemon finish.  The finish is crisp and clean and each sip make you want another.  Overall Widmer Hefeweizen is still one of my favorite wheat beers, and each sip takes me back in time to Yosemite valley.
If you haven’t tried Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen, get out there and try it and create your own Hefe-moment.  If you have tried it, get out there and try it again and revisit this classic wheat beer.  As always when you do try Widmer Hefe, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
