From Ground Breaker:
For the seventh year in a row Ground Breaker Brewing is bringing home a medal from the Great American Beer Festival®. Dark Ale won the Bronze Medal in the Gluten-Free beer category. It is the fourth medal the brewery has received for Dark Ale, which also won Gold Medals in the category for 2014, 2016 & 2017. Earlier in the year the brewery won its first award at the World Beer Cup, a Silver in the Gluten-Free category for IPA No. 5. Since opening their doors in 2011 as Harvester Brewing, the brewery has won a GABF medal in the Gluten-Free beer category every year.
Earlier this year the brewery partnered with Colorado Craft Distributors to bring their lineup to the Centennial State. “It was exciting for the Ground Breaker crew to be in Colorado, winning our seventh consecutive medal,” said James Neumeister, founder and head of R&D at the company. “It’s the first time we’ve been able to tell someone they can buy our beers, including Dark Ale, right down the street.”
It was the second GABF medal win for Head Brewer Tyler Kueber, now in his second year heading the brewhouse. “The pressure was on this year with the most entries in the category there’s ever been,” said Kueber. “The competition keeps getting better and it’s great to know we’re still improving and keeping up with the upward trend of exceptional gluten-free beers. It was exciting to hear a nod to the difficulty in brewing these beers.”
Kueber was referring to a comment by the Brewers Association’s Chris Swersey who was the main presenter at the awards ceremony. "I want to take a minute and acknowledge the extreme difficulty in brewing these beers, these are really tough. These folks are experts,” said Swersey after announcing Ground Breaker’s medal.
The brewery won their first medal as Harvester Brewing in 2012, capturing the Bronze Medal with Pale Ale in the Gluten-Free beer category. The brewery won a second medal under the Harvester name in 2013, snagging the Gold Medal in the Gluten-Free beer category for IPA No. 1. After changing their name to Ground Breaker Brewing in 2014, the brewery continued to win GABF medals in 2014, 2015, 2016, & 2017.
