Three of the Oregon-based brewery’s creations - Wanderlust IPA, Lunch Break ISA and Old World IPA - win high honors at the international awards program
Portland, OR – 23 May 2018 –Breakside Brewery claimed several awards in the 2018 World Beer Cup, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers. The brewery won Gold for its Lunch Break ISA, while Wanderlust IPA and Old World IPA took home Silver in their respective categories. In the last World Beer Cup, held in 2016, Breakside Brewery took home more medals that any other brewery in the world.
“As craft brewing continues to grow, there are many breweries all around the world making incredible creations,” said Ben Edmunds of Breakside Brewery. “This competitive setting makes winning awards even more of an honor for our team, especially for beers that we’ve worked so hard on that they’ve become part of our year-round offerings.”
The beers that took home World Beer Cup awards included:
- Lunch Break ISA (Gold, International-Style Pale Ale): Lunch Break is a hop forward session beer, built for enjoying any time of day. Some of the brewers’ favorite hops--Simcoe, Amarillo, Cascade and Centennial—were used in this beer, which gives the aroma a heady mix of lemongrass, orange marmalade, grapefruit, pine, and resin.
- Wanderlust IPA (Silver, American-Style Strong Pale Ale): This Golden IPA is made with five different hops and features an intense grapefruit and dank notes with a crisp finish. This beer has taken home many regional, national and international awards over the past few years and is available year-round.
- Old World IPA (Silver, English-Style India Pale Ale): This English style IPA is brewed a bit bigger and richer than our West Coast hop bombs. It’s made with Centennial and Cascade (yeah, we know...not English), this is like a 1998 IPA brewed with 2018 sensibilities. It features notes of floral, lemongrass and rich malt.
Presented by the Brewers Association, the World Beer Cup has been held biennially since 1996, to celebrate the art and science of brewing by recognizing outstanding achievement. For additional information, visit the World Beer Cup website.
