Catawba Brewing Releases Small Batch White Walnut Imperial Brown Ale

Catawba Brewing Releases Small Batch White Walnut Imperial Brown AleFrom Catawba Brewing:

Catawba Brewing taps their White Walnut Imperial Brown Ale (9.0 percent ABV) on Thursday, January 11, available at all four Catawba tasting rooms. Brewed with four specialty grains and British hops, the beer began as a traditional English Brown Ale, which was then adapted to imperial strength as fortification against winter temperatures in our Blue Ridge Mountains. An addition of 13 lbs of locally foraged white walnut shells provides an indigenous North Carolina twist, creating a curiously complex flavor profile of cocoa, toasted butternuts, earthy bitterness, wood, and a hint of smoke.

White Walnut Imperial Brown Ale is a special collaboration beer with the renowned Chef Clark Barlowe of Charlotte, NC, who supplied the foraged nuts. It debuted at the brewery’s Appalachian New Year’s Beer Dinner held in the Barrel Room at Catawba Charlotte on Sunday. Now available to the general public, this dark, hearty ale is Passport Beer #2 in Catawba’s 2018 Small Batch rewards program.
