From Catawba Brewing:
Catawba Brewing taps a Small Batch Altbier (5.3 percent ABV) on Thursday, November 16, available exclusively in Catawba’s four tasting rooms. Deep amber in color, the Altbier originated in Düsseldorf as an unusual hybrid style. Brewed with Pilsner, Munich, and Chocolate malts and Bravo hops, it was fermented with ale yeast at temperatures more common for a lager. The result is a clean, easy-drinking, malt-forward beer with a crisp, dry finish.
Small Batch Altbier will serve as a special fundraiser beer at two Catawba locations. In Asheville tasting rooms, $1 per pint sold will be donated to Josh Boyd, a friend of the brewery, who was seriously injured after falling from a ladder while at work. Please visit Josh’s Go Fund Me page for more information and to make a donation toward his recovery.

At their Charlotte brewery, Catawba is hosting a fundraiser on the release day (5-8pm) for The Lunch Project. The beer will be branded “Empowering Altbier” for the event, with $1 from each pint going toward the non-profit’s mission to transform communities by empowering and connecting children across the globe. The event will feature live music and raffle prizes from local businesses.
About The Lunch Project:
Internationally, TLP funds lunches in Tanzanian primary schools, fueling children to learn while stimulating the economy through locally sourced goods and services. In Charlotte, TLP fosters empathy in children through its global empathy education initiative that uses its lunch program as a model to teach kids about cultural similarities and differences, how to put empathy into action by conducting service projects, and how to foster their own unique ability to make a change in the world.
